News from Senegal’s boarding schools
The boys and girls of the boarding schools in Senegal already enjoy the new computer equipment that will contribute to the improvement of their education, allowing them a good and complete education in the boarding schools that complements and reinforces the one they receive in their schools.
This new equipment is part of the project “Promoting Access to quality primary and secondary education in the departments of Foudiougne and Oussouye in Senegal, with a rights-based approach”, which has been financed by the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia.
The project is improving the education offered in the boarding schools by strengthening their organisational and pedagogical capacities. The project is also financed by the Jaca City Council as well as by the Itaka-Escolapios network’s own resources.
Start of the course in West Africa
Last week, 18 November 2021, the Itaka-Escolapios West Africa team held its opening session for the year 2021-2022.
The following points were discussed:
- Evaluation of the 2020-2021 exercise and validation of the annual plan.
- The strategy for strengthening Itaka-Escolapios’ presence in the West African Province.
- Evaluation of the project of networking of boarding schools (project of the Bizkaia Gobernment).
- The financial state of Itaka-Escolapios.
- The reorientation of the Cabrousse socio-educational centre.
- New strategy of action and social innovation.

NEW YEAR OF THE “MOUVEMENT CALASANZ” IN WEST AFRICA
On the 17th of this month, has been officially launch the new year of the “Calasanz Movement” in the province of West Africa. That was during the mass celebrated in the juniorate house of Dakar. At that celebration where the participants received the blessing and have been sent in mission, all the groups in Senegal had their representatives.
The day before, the whole morning has been consecrated to the formation of the leaders. During that session, many good practices were shared in order to implement the Movement, as recommended by the last provincial chapter.

Summer camps in Senegal and Ivory Coast
Once again the West African Pious Schools have organized their Holiday Camps for children from Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. More than 1000 children go to the colonies, 800 of them in precarious situations.
